This piece has been the result of an exchange made by ‘The Contemporary Jewelry Exchange’ with Renè Lee Henry , jewellery artist settled in Houston, TX, USA.
This exchange has been a great challenge, even more than expected.
We decided to make a bug for each other. Renè told me that she identifies with scorpions, not only because Scorpio is her astrological sign but also because she grew up in the deserts of Arizona.
I started to think about a new kind of scorpion inspired by the ‘bark scorpion’.
I decided to make it with the last process of generation I’ve been investigating which is very ‘biological’ and appropriate for a bug. Departing from a basic unit, the species begins to grow until the shape reaches its ultimate state of maturity. Little by little assuming a life of its own.
We built a very maternal relationship until he reached his final shape and he felt ready to go. I cut the umbilical cord and let him cross the ocean and start his new life.
Esta pieza ha sido el fruto de un intercambio realizado dentro de ‘The Contemporary Jewelry Exchange’ con Renè Lee Henry , artista joyera afincada en Houston, TX, EEUU.
Este intercambio ha sido un gran reto, más incluso de lo que esperaba.
Renè y yo decidimos hacernos un bicho mutuamente.
Ella me describió la identificación que tiene con los escorpiones, no sólo porque Escorpio es su signo del Zodiaco sino también porque creció en el desierto de Arizona.
Pensé para ella en una nueva especie de escorpión inspirado en el ‘bark scorpion’ característico de Arizona. Para llevarlo a cabo elegí el último proceso que he estado investigando. Un proceso de trabajo muy biológico y muy apropiado para un bicho. Partiendo de una unidad básica, la especie comienza a crecer hasta alcanzar su estado último de madurez. Poco a poco el escorpión fue cobrando vida propia.
Construimos una relación muy maternal hasta que completó su forma final y se reunió las fuerzas suficientes para marchar. Corté el cordón umbilical y le dejé cruzar el océano para comenzar su nueva vida.
